Stamperland 2001s
West Region cup 2nd round,

OLM Athletic 4-1 Stamperland Jnrs

A great day for football for a change, warm up here was a bit all over the place and with a few no shows I had to wing it a bit to get the team organised, OLM are a great passing side and held the ball well looking to draw us out on to them but the boys were well drilled today and stuck to their task and worked in packs today to hunt them down.
We looked to keep the game tight first 20 then try to get into it but we lost a goal early on and I feared the worst as the 1 division opposition looked really comfortable but with Adam up front today he was working hard and both him and Kai down the left pressured their defence and got a break and Kai was clean through on goal and made it 1-1, nose bleed territory for us not to collapse and the midfield trio of Jordan, Cammy and Seb worked tirelessly from start to finish to try to supply Adam who played his role well. There were some superb displays today and with us opting for 5 at the back Chris, Matthew,Lewis,Ewan and Raheem were mopping up everything that was flung at them but somehow we still managed to lose a silly goal but the boys heads were not down and looked to hit back again and a great ball through with 5 to go to half time Adam was called off-side but he wasn’t interfering with play and stopped with Seb running round the defender to slot the ball home only to have it chalked off, a decision that would see us switch off and lose a 3rd before half time.

Two straight swaps saw Andrew who’s played a blinder for us in goal over recent weeks and played well again today came off for Cammy and Jack for Matthew, as we looked to try to get back into it as quick as we could, only for Jack to pull up with an injury sustained in training on Thursday reoccurring. coming off he looked devastated he would make little contribution to the game but that shows how much it means to him to pull on a jersey and just want to play football, love that commitment Jack!
We settled well into the second half and looked the side who wanted it more and we started to play some great football with Jordan sending a great ball through and Lewis who came on for Adam just missing it and the keeper mopped it up.
We really started to get the call down and play some good stuff and deserved another goal but OLM stood firm and we just couldn’t get the ball in the net.
Overall today from start to finish every single on of you gave everything for the jersey today, the attitudes in training have been excellent with the boys actually starting to have a bit of belief about themselves, especially up against a tough 1st Div side normally we would have a few hiding in the game, still plenty of hard work to do and they must keep this up in training and games and with 15 league games left we can build on this today and take it into what will be an extremely tough game away to Glenvale next week, who we narrowly beat early on in the season with only 12 players that day 1st half and 11 second half as Jack was away on his holidays after showing up for just one half of footie, just really showing what this team is about playing the game we all love.
Great account of yourselves today boys please keep up the hard work!!!!
