Stamperland 2001s

Stonelaw BC 7-0 Stamperland Jnrs.

This will be a match report of 2 halves, after last weeks game and not playing well we had a great session on Tuesday where everybody got in and worked hard. Looking to make amends for the game last week we set up slightly different this week and opted to play a more defensive game which did work up until half time.
The team worked as I asked them making sure we closed down and tried not to leave big gaps for Stonelaw to play in as they are a great side when they get into it. Only thing I would say about the first half effort is sometimes lacked going to close down at 100% occasionally some of the boys pulled out of tackles and looked apprehensive to go in full blooded and if we cut that out and then win the 50/50s then that gives us something to work at. Sitting at 1-0 we lost an influential player in Jordan who twisted his knee in the Astro but got up and played on only for him to eventually have to come off with about 5 to go until half time.
1st half summary created a few chances with the best going to James who hit a shot for it to go through the keepers hands off the bar and the keeper managing to keep it out after it hit him again….when you watch us you’ll know that that’s just our luck.

Easy half time talk just keep up the hard work and keep plugging but we know how dangerous Stonelaw can be and for the whole of the second half they pulled us all over the place, with only 13 available today and Lewis Clark picking up an injury we had no room for subs this half and with James then declaring himself needing a rest I told him we’d be left with ten and he stayed on. With the heads down Stonelaw created chance after chance and managed to race off into the distance and out of sight. But credit to our boys they kept working hard and looking to see if they could create at least one opportunity to get a goal back.

Not too worried about the second half as we just lost out to the better team and lost out to fitness levels still not being there, but will take a lot from the first a gritty workman like performance where sometimes a bit of composure and confidence would have had us in some great positions.
Fingers crossed we get back to full numbers and full fitness for training this week and a speedy recovery to Jordan so we can get back on the horse next week and if we can produce another disciplined performance like the first half today then who knows anything is possible.

Lost our long term keeper two weeks ago but credit to Andrew for stepping in and taking the gloves he played well today and I liked the way he moaned at the defence to get the shots blocked.
Need to take a leaf out of their big number 11 who in the second half even though they were clear in from chased the ball back won it and went on the attack again, just that bit of fighting spirit we find ourselves lacking at times if we get that then get the ball moving they way we play in training then we should get our rewards.
