Stamperland Jnrs 0-7 Hillwood BC

After the long break and previously going down to Cambuslang 3-0 I thought we could have given Hillwood a better game after the two previous league encounters finishing 2-2 we really didn’t give a good account of ourselves on Saturday at all giving away cheap goals, apart from the first which was a thunderbolt from about 25 yards, you can’t take it away from Hillwood though they were up for it and won just about every 50/50 and showed real class to constantly put us under pressure.

Sitting at half time 3-0 we started the second half brightly and created numerous chances to get back in it but with one break Hillwood took the four goal lead and the killer punch knocks the stuffing out the boys and we totally lost our positioning and any ideas how to get back into it and we were lucky it was only 7-0 at the end.
It was at this point I decided with a heavy heart to withdraw from the last two remaining games as the boys are sitting exams and really don’t need this sort of pressure after a long hard gruelling season which we’ve had a few lows and many highs. As many of you know these boys put in a lot of effort and don’t get the rewards they deserve although I don’t think many of us will forget winning our Scottish cup tie in extra time with the last kick of the ball.
It’s not in our make up to give in but as a coach I could see we had nothing left this season and exams are more important at this point in their development as I see them becoming young men, and I wouldn’t want them to have the pressure of performing for the last two games.
Still to ask them about next season but I’m pretty sure I know the answer is already so we will see you all again next season for another assault on a league campaign to see where it takes us.
At the end of the season I’d like to thank all parents for help throughout the year whether it be putting up/taking down goals or just offering a lift to someone to get them to a game I really couldn’t do it without you all and lastly a big thank you to the boys for constantly showing the willingness to learn and never giving in no matter what the circumstances and all the laughs along the way.
