Stamperland Jnrs 1-0 Glenvale AFC

Well today is a special day in the Stewart household as it’s my 11th wedding anniversary today and I treated Frances to hospitality tickets to watch Stampy Jnrs at Woodfarm.

With it being the start of the school holidays and struggling for numbers we showed up today only having 12 and knowing that at half time Jack was leaving to go on holiday we knew we’d be up against it, Glenvale certainly started the more spritely as we struggled for the first 10 mins and Cammy in goal pulling off 2 world class saves one on one really kept us in it and after we found our feet we moved the ball as good as I’ve seen us and the defence of Chris,Ewan,Lewis and Jack stood firm with anything thrown at them.
The composure was there the sharp passing they’ve been working on and movement had us dominating most of the game first half. We had a good few chances to take the lead which I felt we needed to take as I knew second half we’d struggle with no subs or room for error, but we kept going at it but couldn’t find the net. Glenvale must have known second half they just needed to be patient and we would eventually buckle with tired legs but what a performance of backs to the wall as Glenvale huffed and puffed but couldn’t blow our house down as the defence showed why I believe in these boys and mopped up and cleared everything thrown at them today.
Glenvale must have had about 10 corners in as many minutes but with resolute defending and outstanding goalkeeping from Cammy we gave ourselves a chance of sneaking a point which is have been happy with at 70 mins, until I heard the keeper of Glenvale trying to spark his team to life by shouting let’s not be their first win….well in recent months I’d have questioned him about repeating the game and my players but left it and I’m not sure if the boys heard it but from somewhere we dragged ourselves out the mire and started to actually get a grip of the game again and created a few half chances, and with 5 mins left on the clock James who broke their hearts in the cup last season with a goal in extra time with the last kick of the ball once again pounced and curled a beautiful effort round the keeper from about 20 yards to send us into ecstasy but knew we had to focus as Glenvale would look to get a quick goal back with limited time, but we stood firm and the boys got a guilt deserved victory for a great effort.

The commitment of Jack Miller who showed up first half for a game before flying out on holiday shows his love of the game, all boys giving 100% today even second half with only 11 and no options of subs there were no complaints from anyone even Adam who had to fill in at left back after Jack left and Seb who played left mid then right mid, so many outstanding performances today with Cammy Miller in centre mid with Talha really worked so hard to keep them at bay, Kai who had to drop back from striker and I could see was struggling but never gave up, this is what I’ve been looking for after a few good games this year from front to back we were outstanding today.

MOTM today a real tough one as the team really clicked today and nobody was found wanting but for me and I’m sure anybody who seen his performance will agree Cammy Stewart he really did make sure we had the chance to get the 3 points today.

Oh and also Frances really loved the hospitality tickets and she said the best part of the day getting to meet the coach and players 😂😂
