Stamperland Jnrs 2-2 Hillwood BC

Another resilient performance again today from the team who have worked so hard over the last few weeks, with the kick off put back nearly an hour because the ref was late it was going to be tough to get the timings right and we were sloppy as the game kicked off to find ourselves 1-0 down with in the first 10 with a late tackle by Ruaridh giving Hillwood the advantage and converting from the resulting penalty, after our recent game finishing 2-2 also the boys managed to get a foothold in the game and started to create a few chances of our own.

The midfield trio of Cammy(who has been a real find after OLM folded) Ally(smallest man on the park most weeks) and Adam have really made it difficult for others to try to remove them from the team and with a great pick up from Matthew Perry at the back, he showed composure to give the ball to Cammy who threaded an inch perfect pass to James who ran on to the ball and bang we were back in it, 1-1.
Game was a bit scrappy at times and a few miss timed tackles from both sides were going in, which wasn’t helped by a bobbly park but Hillwood managed to sneak into the lead at half time, but the turning point was their number 7 being booked as he was getting frustrated at our defence limiting him to only a few chances which was just as well because he was a tricky player with a bit of pace and good movement and skill.

My boys have always shown real character and never give in no matter what the circumstances, but at the moment they’ve got the bit between their teeth and have finished the season strongly and were pushing to get back into it and after winning a freekick out on the right a great ball whipped in by Cammy seen a scramble in the box breaking to Raheem who rifled the ball straight into the top corner, both teams then sensed a bit of urgency and looked to try to win the game but with the adrenalin kicking in both sets of boys lost the discipline a bit and a few niggles came into the game that then saw both teams finishing the game with 10 men.

Always good to hear other teams get frustrated with the game because I know that my boys are doing their jobs right on the park, yes we have struggled at times but the new set up aimed at pushing on more like a real football team with only tactical play or injuries making us use subs, really is good to see the team getting results but think a bit of lack of respect from other teams at times as we are now no longer pushovers and we can compete with teams in our league making for us going the last 5 games with 4 draws and one narrow defeat to a team that will probably go on and win the league this year, has been satisfying to watch over recent weeks.
Big shout to my defence today Ewan, Big Lewis, Scott G and Matthew who all played really well against boys who have played at a decent level before recently joining Hillwood.
Well played to both sets of players today a real cup tie feel about the game and both sets of players wanting to win!!!

We can compete with teams in our own league and you’ve showed it again boys and I now look forward to our 1 remaining league game and 5 games in the divisional cup, can we produce a shock and qualify for the semis….its in your hands.
