St Cadocs YC Thistle 2-1 Stamperland Jnrs

After our recent turn around managing to get 3 draws in a row, if you go on our previous meeting against St Cadocs you would have stuck your money on them as top faced bottom at Eastwood high. Having played teams over the seasons you can get a feel for how they’ll play and St Cadocs always play good football looking to stretch the opposition, but with our wide players really stepping up over the past couple weeks they knew they would need to get up and down the park on a good number of occasions today.

In the early exchanges both teams looked good trying to get that early sucker punch to put the others game plan to the test but after a while it was our opponents who really looked to take advantage and had numerous shots but nothing to really trouble Alex in goal.
The midfield were working hard and really only a lack of belief at times fails to get us going forward but with a great bit of play down the left the ball was played through to James who’s shot was parried out and picked up by their defence and with great counter attacking football instead of falling behind it was 1-0 st Cadocs.
Normally in this position heads are down and panic sets in but with the focus now being pressed on performance the boys looked to get back into it but as we were exposed down the right we lost a second and went in 2-0 at half time.

As we all know normally sitting 2-0 gives me time to make subs get boys on and see what the fringe players can do, but with all boys agreeing in training we now concentrate on keeping it tight and looking for results we looked to get back into it and pulled one back with some great play and passing and Zaryab buried the ball to make it 2-1 with 20 mins to play roughly. We had numerous chances and even had one cleared off the line which would have given us something I feel the boys deserved today for the effort they put in but St Cadocs held out for a hard fought 3 points.

A great game to watch and the last 20 mins you could sense the tension as St Cadocs are looking to go on to win div 3, so great credit to both sets of players for giving all spectators a real nail biting finish.
As we look to change the way we approach games, today gave me a real insight to how we can progress if we play the way all other teams go and push for victories, with all boys in agreement that this is the way forward I’m hoping that with only 13 being taken to the game today this sparks the team and fringe players into really pushing in training, because as we showed today that we are capable of competing with the best at this level.

Although it’s a defeat it’s always good to hear opposition coaches when they take time to say to the boys that was their toughest game they’ve had this season and really doesn’t do our league position justice.
So on to the next game with the disappointment of today to inspire us on our travels to Rothesay next Saturday.

Well played today boys!!! 💛
