Stamperland Jnrs 1-1 Pirie Park YFC

A cliche of a game of 2 halves has to be used for this game as we dominated the 1st but as usual a lack of cutting edge and getting support up to the front man to help out was to be our downfall today. Really should have been out of sight with numerous chances to take the lead but that indecision to just sometimes have a hit from outside the box really punished us as we could only manage to go in 1-0 up thanks to a penalty which was dispatched by James. The corner count must have reached double figures but just couldn’t get the ball in the back of the net, and towards the end of the first half Pirie Park got a couple of corners that I think gave them a boost and something positive to work with second half.

I was to be proved right by this as you could sense they were up for the battle, unfortunately we were to drop to deep and the work rate disappeared as we were having to do all the running, as the half moved on you could really feel the tension, and after a few subs which I thought might help us out with a bit more energy they managed to pull a goal back to make it 1-1, think going late on both sets of players did themselves justice today with a real cup tie feel and the desire to win the game.

The only down for us today is we feel we should have been out of sight first half so here comes a bit of criticism for the team today, we really must start taking chances and have more shots at goal from outside with strikers running in for seconds if the ball drops. The energy was great first half and some of the football also good to watch. In the second half, as subs were made I found myself watching boys going on and showing no real effort to show me they deserve a place on the starting team and making it hard for me to pick a team. Pirie Park were right up for it second half and sensed we lacked that fighting spirit they showed to get a foothold in the game, overall I can’t really complain because for us to have went 3 games unbeaten all be it with 3 draws really should give the boys a bit of belief about themselves.

Next week St Cadocs, a team fighting for the title, this will be a test of character for you boys, stand up and be counted do not shy away just because you think they are better, be more clinical if you get a chance but most of all do not come off and have any regrets about the game….something we all have after today and I include myself in that.
