Stamperland Jnrs 2-3 Gourock YAC

Turned up today at Toryglen and could sense the boys were up for this as there was no laughing and talking during the warm up and could see the mood was good, I knew before hand that with Gourock sitting 5th this would be a tough ask to get something out this.

As the game started it didn’t take long for us to start creating chances and within 5 mins we took the lead with Zaryab, James and Jamie all combining to create an opening for Jamie to loop the ball by the keeper, 1-0 us,kept on top of them today as I knew at some point Gourock would get back into the game and start to create openings of their own but we managed to keep them at bay and whilst doing this tried to pick them off on the counter and really should have been 2 up but just a lack of cutting edge prevented us scoring.
As they pushed us back for a spell and got a corner which lead to the equaliser through just a lack of clearing the ball, heads didn’t drop though as the midfield was working tirelessly today but this was a spell where we had to try to see out some pressure and unfortunately we conceded with 5 mins till half time with an easy header at the back post from another corner, got the boys in at half time and told them we don’t change just need to pick it up with stronger tackles and better decisions to be made when under pressure in our own box…sometimes just launching it out the park is the only option.
As the second half started I pushed the boys on from the sidelines trying to get them going forward and they certainly looked up for it again,only created a few chances but nothing clear cut until James got the ball down drove at the defence and we managed to level it to 2-2. Really sensed we could get something today but as Gourock started pushing us back a bit and yet ANOTHER corner led to them taking the lead and getting the winner, really soft goals to give away at 3 corners so that’s the only disappointment we will take from the game.

Credit to both sets of players today, a real end to end game with both looking to win it, really hits home when the other coaches say to us we can’t believe that we are sitting with no points and deserved something out the game today. We must take that into next weeks cup tie against Bute Youth who will be tough to crack but play like that today boys and who knows this funny old game might not give us another hard luck story.
